St Andrew’s Children’s Society is a voluntary adoption agency based in Edinburgh and operating within a 60 mile radius of Scotland’s capital city.

 
  The Society was established in 1922 to promote the welfare and care of Catholic children and their families.

This work continues today but we have also extended our work In order to providing permanent and temporary homes through Fostering and Adoption, for children from all sections of society irrespective of their religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

  • Cardinal O’Brien has been the Society’s President since 1985 when he became Archbishop of the Archdiocese of St. Andrews and Edinburgh. He continues to take a keen interest in the work of the Society

Maureen McEvoy
 

  • Maureen became involved with the Society in 1967 when she adopted the first of her 5 children from us. She has worked tirelessly in a voluntary capacity for the Society ever since becoming Chairperson in 1992. Her enthusiasm and commitment to the needs of vulnerable children in our community is a great example to all who come in to contact with her.

    Her commitment to the work of the Society and her enormous contribution to the adoption scene in Scotland generally was rewarded in 2007 when she received an MBE from the Queen.

  • Stephen has been a social worker since 1986. He worked in a local authority children and family team and family placement services before joining the Society in 1994.

  • Charlie has been a social worker since 1987. He worked in local authorities children and family teams until he joined the Society in 1997.

Catriona Walker
 
 

  • Catriona joined the Society in 2004 having worked in many social work settings both within the statutory and voluntary sector. She has experience of children and families, family placement, residential and pre-school provision work settings. She has been a qualified social worker since 1983.

  • Denise is the longest serving member of staff having joined the Society in 1987. She has been a qualified social worker since 1974. She worked in local authority children and families settings as well as in a voluntary adoption agency in the Republic of Ireland.

  • Christine has a long number of years experience in family placement work having been qualified as a social worker since 1980. she joined the Society in 1997.

  • Sue has been qualified as a social worker since 1988 and worked with local authorities and other voluntary agencies before coming to the Society in 1993.

  • Maggie became a social worker in 1977 having previously worked as a teacher. She has a wealth of experience in children and families work both in Scotland and England but also had over 20 years experience of family placement work before joining us in 2006.

  • Having qualified as a social worker in 1999 Sylvia worked in various local authority Children and Families settings before becoming part of our Team in 2007.

  • Hilary joined the Society in 2005 having just qualified as a social worker. She grew up in a family that fostered and she also has an adopted sibling.

  • Claire worked in many office and administrative settings before joining the Society in 1997. She became the Office Manager in 1998.
